“Maritime 4.0”: Digitalisation in Focus

On the 29th of May 2018, this year’s Schiff&Hafen conference in Hamburg entitled “Maritime 4.0” was very much dedicated to the fourth industrial revolution. The high-calibre audience comprising experts and decision-makers from shipping companies, sub-contractors, IT start-ups and shipyards exchanged ideas on the possibilities and opportunities provided by digitalisation while learning about the latest technologies relating to the cloud, IoT remote monitoring and data security.

The large increase in the number of participants, which had doubled in comparison to the previous year, was evidence of how on-trend this topic is at present. In attendance alongside Hapag-Lloyd AG and MSC Germany S.A. & Co. KG, was Wärtsilä SAM Electronics GmbH – one of the world’s market leaders in the field of automation – whose staff gave several talks at the conference and provided a glimpse of how the new seaconomy of tomorrow might look.
